Chlumsky, Gandolfini in 'The Loop'

(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – Anna Chlumsky, the actress who played MacCauley Culkin's friend in the 1991 feature My Girl, David Rasche (United 93), and James Gandolfini are starring in BBC Films' political satire The Loop. The story, an unofficial adaptation of the BBC series The Thick of It, parodies the inner workings of U.S. and British government agencies and their international relations. Chlumsky will play a State Department official; Rasche portrays an undersecretary of state; and Gandolfini plays a general. Shooting is scheduled to start this month.

The Loop marks Chlumsky's return to the spotlight in a major feature. After the post-My Girl 2 teen roles dried up, the actress moved to Brooklyn in 2002 and was working as a fact checker for restaurant guide Zagat and editing at HarperCollins imprint Eos when she decided she wanted to get back into acting. She credits the decision to an encounter with singer Roberta Flack at a nail salon. ''She told me I should stay in the business,'' Chlumsky told Hollywood Reporter. ''So did a psychic I met on the street." After taking part in some off-Broadway plays and a few small films, Chlumsky, who still resides in Brooklyn with her husband, made appearances on 30 Rock and Law & Order, and then signed onto star in the CW comedy pilot Eight Days a Week last year before landing the female lead in The Loop.
