Julian Schnabel's masterful adaptation of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, French Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, is a moving, humane drama about a vibrant man (Mathieu Amalric) left almost completely paralyzed by a stroke, and the rich life that lingered after his body failed. EXTRAS Schnabel's fantastic commentary mixes technical details — he attached his own glasses to the camera to simulate Bauby's point of view — with fun asides (Niels Arestrup, who plays a hospital visitor, is a mix of ''Chris Walken and Marlon Brando after they've been stuck inside a glacier for about 13 hours'').
