American Idol voters agreed with Simon Cowell that it was time for Jason Castro to pack his bags, sending the laid-back troubadour home on this week’s results show. After a difficult few weeks, Jason had continued to struggle during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-themed show on Tuesday. His rendition of ''I Shot the Sheriff'' and his botched lyrics to ''Mr. Tambourine Man'' were not well received by the judges.
Syesha Mercado, who conversely seems to have hit her stride the past few weeks, was in the bottom two with Jason but ultimately made it to the safety couches with the Davids (Cook and Archuleta).
The Wednesday-night show also featured performances of “If I Never See Your Face Again,” by Maroon 5, and of “Witness,” by season 4 runner-up Bo Bice.
