A Freewheelin' Time (2008)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: May 13, 2008; Writer: Suze Rotolo; Genres: Memoir, Nonfiction; Publisher: Broadway Books

There's no less promising strain of memoir than the ''I was that famous dude's girlfriend, 40 years ago'' book — so Suze Rotolo's account of her time with Bob Dylan is a delightful surprise. Known as the arm candy on Dylan's Freewheelin' LP cover, Rotolo didn't break her silence in A Freewheelin' Time to dish dirt, though there are fleeting mentions of an abortion and her discovery of Dylan's affair with Joan Baez. Instead, she gracefully captures Greenwich Village as an enchanted lost world, a boy who's sweet but cryptic (even pre-fame), and a girl too independent to latch onto that celebrity arm indefinitely. B+
