''The Girl With the Crooked Nose'' -- EW staffer Ted Botha on researching his new book

Since 1993, hundreds of women have been killed in Juárez, Mexico. In The Girl With the Crooked Nose, Ted Botha (a copy editor at EW) follows the cases by focusing on Frank Bender, a self-taught ''forensic sculptor'' who reconstructs the faces of unidentified murder victims with clay, plaster, and paint. Admits Botha, 50, ''The research was pretty grisly.''
