It may be Broadway's first kitchen-sink musical: Faith Prince is stunning as a sad Bronx matron hell-bent on giving her daughter the fancy wedding she never had, and Tom Wopat is fine as her working-stiff husband, angrily watching the bills pile up. But adding music to Paddy Chayefsky's '50s teleplay yields nothing. Given the characters' shriveled souls, melody is out: John Bucchino's songs add up to small talk with underscoring. Everyone seems clinically depressed, except for Harvey Fierstein (who also penned A Catered Affair's libretto), who hams it up anachronistically as Prince's brother, an uncloseted florist.
