ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What else do you have coming up? Any other projects in the works?
PATRICK STEWART: I do. I have an absolutely spine-tingling, awesome theater project that will happen next February when Hamlet is finished. But I cannot tell you what it is, because there's been no announcement yet. But I tell you, every time I think about it I get goosebumps.
That's quite a tease! Can you give us even any kind of hint?
Not at all. No, no. It teams me with an actor I've wanted to do something with for a long time. Just the two of us. Next summer, if it's half as good as this summer, I'll be happy. And it might be a lot better! Already, there's been some talk, if this does well, of bringing it to New York.
I eagerly await finding out what it is. Moving to a slightly lighter project: Another performance of yours I really enjoyed was the episode of Ricky Gervais' Extras you did a few years back.
Oh, wasn't that fun!
Watch a clip of Patrick Stewart on Extras:
What can you tell me about what that experience was like?
It was one of the best filming experiences of my life. It was only half a day. We did it in an afternoon, working in that style, which I'd never done before. I know to you it looks like improvisation but every word of that was very carefully scripted. It wasn't improvisation at all. It was a wonderful opportunity for me. I love playing comedy; I don't get asked to do it very often. So when I get the chance to do something like Extras, or I did an episode in the final season of Frasier, which was a comic episode, I just grab at it. Because I would like to do a lot more comedy.
Are you looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek film that's coming out next year?
Oh, I am! Yes, looking forward to it very much. And I know nothing about it.
Have the producers of that film been in touch with you at all?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It has nothing to do with The Next Generation at all.
