The premise of veteran shock writer Chuck Palahniuk's latest book is borderline offensive: A famous porn star seeks to break a world record by ahem romancing 600 men on film. Yet, somewhere along the way, you forget the somewhat unsettling setup and get drawn into the very unsexy, sprawling stories of three men waiting backstage for ahem their turn. Mr. 600 is an aging porn legend; Mr. 137, a disgraced TV star desperate to prove his machismo; and Mr. 72, an adopted young man eager to connect with the film's star.
