Hot Town, Summer at the Movies...Sadly, I'm filled with gloom about the summer movie season predictably full of comic-book adaptations, teen sex comedies, and sequels (Summer Movie Preview). I wish more filmmakers would take a cue from Woody Allen and make more original summer fare, like his upcoming Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Kudos to Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford, for embracing his age
without reservation.

I understand why George Lucas would be jaded about the fan response to
the Star Wars prequels, but Indiana Jones is a different beast: It
develops one adventure at a time, whereas Star Wars is a vast universe
expanded even further through books, cartoons, and role-playing games.
He shouldn't alienate those of us excited about Kingdom of the Crystal
Skull because of the backlash he got before. Let us decide for ourselves
on May 22.

It was a pleasure seeing a photo of my favorite actress, Cate Blanchett,
looking like an evil, gun-toting version of Diablo Cody in Kingdom of
the Crystal Skull. Poor Indy doesn't stand a chance!

You gave nice spreads to The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man, but The Dark Knight barely got a page. But maybe I'll take that as a compliment to TDK: You know everyone's already pumped up to see the movie, so you
didn't feel the need to give it extra publicity, right?

The Hunt for Helen
After reading your Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden? review
(Movies), I found it pleasantly ironic to turn the page and see a review
of Helen Hunt's Then She Found Me. Just recently I'd asked myself,
''Where in the world is Helen Hunt?'' Thanks for the update.

Evening Snooze
Maybe Katie Couric's CBS Evening News woes have less to do with gender
than with Peter Pan and Dorothy Gale Halloween costumes she wore as a Today coanchor (News & Notes). Integrity means a lot to journalists; if
she makes it to Halloween '08, maybe Couric can wear an Edward R. Murrow
costume.

Basically, CBS overestimated Couric's charms. Her appeal was fading even
before she left Today, but in its zeal to do something drastic, the
network ignored the warning signs.
