Album You Need: Mason Jennings' 'In the Ever'

The Minneapolis singer-songwriter brings a vintage sound to his sixth album

The sepia-toned country-livin' photographs that adorn In the Ever — the sixth album (out now) by Minneapolis tunesmith Mason Jennings — are straight out of the 1973 rock & roll playbook. But more impressive is the way Jennings' music recalls that era's great songwriters, from the yuk-a-minute showboating of Loudon Wainwright III (''Your New Man'') to the plaintive wisdom of Townes Van Zandt (''How Deep Is That River'') and even the inclusive polytheism of George Harrison (''I Love You and Buddha Too''). To hear a handful of his tunes for free, including the above ''Buddha,'' head to myspace.com/masonjennings.
