Outtakes From a Marriage (2008)

It's hard not to speculate about Rescue Me star Denis Leary's marriage after reading Outtakes From a Marriage by his wife, Ann Leary. Peppy narrator Julia Ferraro is married to a roguishly sexy TV actor with whom she has two children. One night, Julia accidentally accesses her hubby's voicemail and hears an intimate message from a potty-mouthed mystery woman. An affair? A hilarious misunderstanding? Leary pads the depressing marital melodrama with strained comic set pieces involving showbiz parties and drunken sex. The prose is sprightly enough, but the celeb connection is the main reason you'll keep reading. B-
