Bring Ya to the Brink (2008)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Release Date: May 27, 2008; Lead Performance: Cyndi Lauper; Genre: Pop

Cyndi Lauper has spent the last few years sliding toward Starbucks territory, with a middle-of-the-road standards set in '03 and an acoustic disc remaking her own hits in '05. On Bring Ya to the Brink, the singer finally jumps back onto the dance floor, escorted by a fresh cast of electronic producers. Lauper's distinctive squeak of a voice fits most comfortably over a dizzy, twisting beat from Britain's ever-inventive Basement Jaxx (''Rocking Chair''). And while the rest of Brink is not as immediately memorable, all those bright bleeps and thumps will surely keep you — and Lauper's career — moving. B
