Where have Wolf Parade, our favorite Isaac Brock-approved Canadians been since their
2005 breakout, Apologies to the Queen Mary? Oh, just busy turning out a
side project or four i.e., Handsome Furs, Swan Lake, Sunset Rubdown, and
Frog Eyes (so many animal references, so little time!). Alas, while At Mount Zoomer is a perfectly decent collection of piano-riddled pomp and
sprawling, raucous songcraft, it suffers somewhat from the Indie Rock
Slumpy Sophomore Syndrome (see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Tapes 'N Tapes,
etc.). Perhaps there's something to be said for not diluting the talent
pool. B
