What happens when a smart, mordantly funny Old West prostitute with a fondness for ''missy,'' or liquid opium, suddenly finds a whole crate of the stuff under her bed, stashed there by her pimp? Before she can gorge herself into an overdose, 19-year-old Dol McQueen realizes that a whole lot of other people want the drug too, and none of them are very savory in Chris Hannan's Missy. So she prudently hightails it through Indian territory in an adventure so hair-raising it makes Deadwood look positively staid in comparison. There hasn't been a fictional character this appealing and outrageous in a long, long time. A-
