(FROM AP) – George Clooney and Brad Pitt have launched an ad campaign aimed at pushing Southeast Asia into pressuring Myanmar's military junta to allow more cyclone aid to reach its population. The board of the US-based group Not On Our Watch which includes Clooney, Pitt, and Matt Damon took out a full-page advertisement in Indonesian English language daily Jakarta Post that said that Asia must pressure the regime to open its doors to foreign aid after Cyclone Nargis. The ad was signed by former and current regional leaders and Nobel laureates. The May 2-3 cyclone left around 138,000 people dead and missing in Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta region, according to the junta. Although the UN estimates 2.4 million people are in need of aid, the junta has refused most offers from the West, but recently allowed in a 250-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) backed assessment team.
