Okay, so the words ''making Internet history'' inspire about as much passion as ''Senate fund-raising hearings.'' Still, the July 17 live ''webcast'' from the Oregon set of The Postman (archived at www.thepostman.com) provided a glimpse of PR cyberstunts to come. Presuming they didn't mind a glitchy, ravioli-size screen image, those who logged on got to watch for 20 minutes as director-star Kevin Costner filmed a shoot-'em-up sequence for the postapocalyptic adventure (set for release this Christmas). Between shots, the filmmaker affably acknowledged the typically slow pace of production: ''Hopefully, by the time [movies] reach you, they're more exciting.''
