(FROM THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) — Jason Schwartzman, who launched his career as overachiever Max Fischer in Rushmore, will play an underachiever in HBO's comedy pilot Bored to Death. In the show, scripted by Jonathan Ames, he'll play a thirtysomething writer in Brooklyn who, plagued with alcoholism, money woes, and a failed romance, decides to emulate the heroes of the Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler mysteries he loves and poses as a private eye. He takes on real cases, solving some and bungling others. Production begins in September, when Schwartzman will also begin filming on Judd Apatow's movie Funny People, alongside Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Eric Bana. (The Hollywood Reporter)
