(FROM VARIETY) Director Phillip Noyce is in negotiations to helm Edwin A. Salt, a spy movie to which Tom Cruise has been attached for several months. The film would feature Cruise (who has yet to officially commit to the project) as a CIA agent who must clear his name after he's accused of being a Russian spy. Noyce is no stranger to the political thriller genre, having made The Quiet American and the Jack Ryan movies Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger; his last movie was the South African drama Catch a Fire. Previously, Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) and Peter Berg (Hancock) were separately attached to direct Salt. (Variety)
