Did you notice anything familiar about WALL-E's robot stars? Here's a primer on trace elements in their DNA.
Apple and EVE
WALL-E's sleek, curvaceous gal pal EVE has an eggshell exterior and
sexy, subcutaneous indicator lights nods to the chic look of Apple
products like the Mac cordless mouse and the iPod.
Red-Eye Redux
Remember HAL, the villainous computer in 2001: A Space
Odyssey? As an homage, the WALL-E team gave the chilly navigational 'bot
Auto (as in autopilot) a single spooky peeper.
Eyes Wide, Shuttered
What sort of face should a sentient trash compactor have?
Writer-director Andrew Stanton found inspiration holding binoculars at a
baseball game. If you ask us, WALL-E also recalls E.T. (retractable
neck) and Short Circuit's Johnny Five (triangular tire treads, aperture
irises, metal eyebrows).
