The Dark Knight's record-breaking opening weekend just got bigger. Final figures for the Friday-to-Sunday frame are now in, and it turns out that the second Batman movie from star Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan officially grossed $158.4 in its debut. (Sunday's early estimate had the movie earning $155.3 mil.) Thus, the comic-book franchise flick exceeded Spider-Man 3's $151.1 mil mark for the biggest three-day opening weekend in box-office history by a remarkable $7.3 mil.
Meanwhile, the weekend's final numbers also gave Mamma Mia! a slight boost, helping it hold on to its record for the best movie-musical premiere of all time. The Broadway adaptation starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan officially grossed $27.8 mil (up from an estimated $27.6 mil), to solidify its position above Hairspray (which bowed with $27.5 mil) among song-and-dance flicks.
