Need a break from summer's blockbuster blare? Look no further than this bittersweet marvel, The Band's Visit in which eight members of an Egyptian police orchestra become stranded in a remote Israeli town. The men are befriended by Dina (an earthy Elkabetz), who takes in two of them for the night. Strangers briefly reach out to one another, but Israeli screenwriter-director Eran Kolirin dodges easy sentiment and political glibness with melancholy-infused wit. A-
