Huey Lewis' favorite music in films

Pineapple Express (2008)
Why did Seth Rogen and his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg ask
Lewis to record a song for their pot comedy's end credits? ''They wanted
an uptempo '80s vibe,'' says the singer. ''They were really involved. In
fact, during the mix, Evan noticed that the chorus was kind of
repetitive. He was right! It was lazy writing on my part. So we rewrote
it, and I re-sang it right there.'' But it was actually Lewis who wanted
to include the sound of toking in the breakdown section. ''I thought that
would be kinda neat.''
American Psycho (2000)
Lewis okayed the song's use in the film (Patrick Bateman lectures a man
on the meaning of ''Hip to Be Square,'' then kills him) but got in a
dispute over its use on the CD. ''They tried to pull a little showbiz
thing on me, which left a bad taste in my mouth. Because of that, I've
never seen it. People tell me it's a really cool scene.''
Big (1988)
Josh Baskin gets a promotion and a kick-ass New York loft. Cue a move-in
montage set to ''Workin' for a Livin','' off the 1982 album Picture This.
''It was one of those songs that kinda fell through the cracks. We wrote
it in, like, 10 minutes, but it just has something to it. People
perceive it as having been a hit, but it never actually was.''
Back to the Future (1985)
Marty McFly's skateboarding tune, ''The Power of Love,'' was a fast smash,
hitting No. 1 not long after the film came out. Nominated for an Academy
Award for the song, Lewis lost to Lionel Richie (''Say You, Say Me''). ''At
the Oscars, Marvin Hamlisch turns around and goes, 'Too bad, dude,
you're gonna get screwed...Lionel's on the aisle.'''
