SHOCK THE BOTTLE: Bill Pullman and Chris Pine play a Napa Valley father and son in Bottle Shock

The politics of making wine is a great subject for a movie, but this clunker doesn't do it justice; Bottle Shock is broad and coy where it needs to be smart. As Jim Barrett, the California winemaker whose hand-crafted chardonnay trumped the tony French vintages in a 1976 blind taste test (putting Napa Valley on the map for oenophiles), Bill Pullman overdoes the manly-American-farmer bit — he looks like he's never had a glass of wine in his life. Chris Pine and Eliza Dushku, as Barrett's screwup son and a sexy intern, are like winners of a Brad Pitt and Jessica Simpson imitation contest. D+
