Nights in Rodanthe

Nicholas Sparks' sentimental 2002 best-seller is all about second chances, though for Gere and Lane, it's more like a third crack at movie magic. "Everybody got excited about the chemistry we have," says Lane of reuniting with her costar from 1984's The 
Cotton Club and 2002's Unfaithful. Their characters, each in the throes of a midlife crisis, flee to a coastal North Carolina beach town to figure things out, and, of course, fall for one another. "It's 
 a tender story about valuing your time [in] life," says Lane. "It's not like a twentysomething, devil-may-care, happy-go-lucky period of life."
