Season 3 will open by revealing who shot Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) — and then immediately launch into brand-new stories. Hiro (Masi Oka) inherits a DVD from his father, charging him to safeguard a mysterious formula from evildoers, and Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) goes MIA, only to be replaced by...his future self from the year 2012. As for the overarching theme, this volume ''unleashes a cadre of villains into the world that have to be stopped,'' says creator Tim Kring. ''Battle lines are drawn, and some of our characters choose the wrong side.''
