Melanie (Tia Mowry) and footballer Derwin (Pooch Hall) have to contend with last season's cliff-hanger: Derwin got another woman pregnant. As creator Mara Brock Akil observes, ''For the first two seasons, football always trumped everything for Melanie and Derwin. Now the baby is going to be the new football.... The overall arc for them this season is, can they fight for their relationship against tough odds?'' Whew — heavy stuff for a sitcom, but The Game has always explored real issues, and as Akil says, ''there's a lot of fun in watching people fall and get back up.''
