Was there ever a live performer more elementally exhilarating than James Brown in 1968? Not judging by I Got the Feelin': James Brown in the '60s, two discs of sweat-soaked, shrieking concert footage. A third — containing a 2008 doc — tackles his role in the civil rights movement; talking heads like Al Sharpton and Cornel West explore the complex topic with subtlety. But the late Godfather of Soul overshadows all commentary. A-
