Minnie Driver, 38, gave birth to her first child, Henry Story, on Sept.
5 in Los Angeles.... On Sept. 4 it was confirmed that David Spade, 44,
welcomed his first child, born on Aug. 26 in Missouri to Jillian Grace, 22.
ENGAGED
Over the weekend of Sept. 5, Channing Tatum, 28, asked girlfriend and
Step Up costar Jenna Dewan, 27, to marry him.... Pop singer Natasha
Bedingfield, 26, got engaged to Matthew Robinson, 30, on Sept. 6.
MARRIED
Singer KT Tunstall, 33, has suddenly seen herself married to drummer
Luke Bullen, 35. The two wed in Scotland on Sept. 6.
RECOVERING
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, 41, was taken to a Toronto hospital on
Sept. 7 after being attacked on stage. The alleged assailant was taken
into police custody.
ACCIDENTS
After an argument with Colt Rushton, 24, in a Payson, Utah, bowling
alley on Sept. 6, police say Gary Coleman, 40, hit Rushton while backing
up his truck. Rushton was taken to the hospital and treated for minor
injuries. No arrests have been made, but the case remains under
investigation.
COURTS
Steven Spielberg, Paramount Pictures, and DreamWorks, among others, are
named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in New York on Sept. 5 by the
estate of Sheldon Abend. It claims that 2007's Disturbia stole the plot
of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, which was based on a short story to
which Abend had exclusive rights.... Anna Nicole Smith's former lawyer
Howard K. Stern, 39, filed a defamation lawsuit on Sept. 2 in Los
Angeles against Jackie Hatten and Mark Speer, two alleged sources of
statements against Stern in Rita Cosby's 2007 tell-all Blonde Ambition.
Hatten and Speer could not be reached for comment.... Tommy Lee Jones,
62, filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures for more than $10 million
on Sept. 4 in Bexar County, Tex. Jones claims he has yet to receive box
office bonuses for No Country for Old Men. In a statement, Paramount
responded, ''We're confident that we have fulfilled our obligations to
Mr. Jones.''
DONATED
Stand Up to Cancer, a telethon with appearances from the likes of
Christina Applegate and Sheryl Crow, raised more than $100 million,
which will be donated to cancer research.
DEATHS
Peanuts animator and six-time Emmy winner Bill Melendez, 91, died of
natural causes, Sept. 2, in Santa Monica.... Former Farrar, Straus &
Giroux editor in chief Robert Giroux, 94, died of natural causes, Sept.
5, in Tinton Falls, N.J.

WIZARD WINS
It was points for Potter on Sept. 8 when scribe J.K. Rowling, 43, won her copyright-infringement lawsuit in New York against RDR Books to prevent the publication of The Harry Potter Lexicon. The judge ruled that the encyclopedia penned by fan Steve Vander Ark would cause irreparable harm to Rowling as a writer and awarded her $6,750 in damages. In a statement following the ruling, RDR Books responded, ''We are obviously disappointed with the result, and RDR is considering all of its options.'' KW
