the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 13 in L.A. Silverman's
song and video ''I'm F---ing Matt Damon'' took the Original Music and
Lyrics trophy, while Nixon named best supporting actress in 2004 for Sex
and the City was rewarded for her guest stint as a mentally ill woman on
Law & Order: SVU.
BIRTHS
Boxer/Dancing With the Stars alum/American Gladiators host Laila Ali,
30, has taken on a new role: mom. Curtis Muhammad Conway Jr. her son
with ex-NFL star Curtis Conway, 37 arrived Aug. 26 in L.A.... The
Biggest Loser's season 2 winner, Matt, 32, and finalist Suzy Hoover, 32,
are parents to a second child, Jax Paul, who was born in Seattle on
Sept. 11. The couple also have a 15-month-old, Rex Timothy.
ENGAGED
He was cast aside by Tiffany Pollard, but I Love New York 2 contestant
David Otunga, 28, found his Dreamgirl after all Jennifer Hudson, 27.
Otunga popped the question to the singer/Oscar winner on Sept. 12 in L.A.
MARRIED
On Sept. 14 in L.A., Star Trek's George Takei, 71, tied the knot with
his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman, 54.... Curb Your Enthusiasm's
Susie Essman, 53, wed boyfriend Jim Harder, 51, in New York City on
Sept. 13.
ARRESTS
On Sept. 11 at Los Angeles International Airport, hip-hop star Kanye West, 31, was picked up on vandalism charges after he and a bodyguard
smashed a paparazzo's video camera. He was released on bail later that
afternoon, and blogged about the incident the following day: ''We back in
the lab!!! I'm cool with the paparazzi,'' West wrote. ''This guy wasn't
cool.'' He's due in court Oct. 2.
SEPARATING
After 11 years of marriage, Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan,
40, is calling it quits with husband Ashwin Sood, 40. They have two
daughters, India Ann Sushil, 6, and Taja Summer, 14 months.
COURTS
On Sept. 12 in Honolulu, Lost's Daniel Dae Kim, 40, pleaded no contest
to DUI charges stemming from a 2007 arrest. The actor's license was
suspended for six months; he'll do 72 hours of community service and pay
a $500 fine. ''I'm glad I had the chance to take responsibility for my
mistake,'' he said in a statement.
DEATHS
Gregory Mcdonald, 71, who penned the nine Fletch crime novels, died of
prostate cancer, Sept. 7, in Pulaski, Tenn. with additional reporting by Stewart Allen
LEGACY
Richard Wright (1943-2008)
Keyboardist Wright, who died Sept. 15 after a battle with cancer, was
Pink Floyd's quiet man. But he played a crucial role in the band's sonic
explorations, and co-wrote songs like ''Us and Them'' for a little album
called The Dark Side of the Moon. ''We constantly use Rick Wright as a
reference,'' says Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. Recalls Floyd
drummer Nick Mason: ''Pink Floyd's sound is more than a guitar, bass, and
drums thing. Rick knitted it all together.'' Clark Collis
