Maria Bethânia is practically a national institution by now, and Canto do Pajé is one gorgeous overview of both her 25-year career and the many musical tributaries that make up Brazilian music. It's lush, jazzy, and very wise, with help from João Gilberto, Gal Costa, and Nina Simone. A+
