Margareth Menezes doesn't have Maria Bethânia's dignity on Kindala, but only because she's too busy kicking butt. Fusing the rough rhythms of Bahia with modern technology, Menezes lays out 12 tunes that are both slinkily cool and lyrically butch (how about ''Jet Ski,'' a reggae skank about environmental destruction?).
