Mermaid Avenue Volume II is a shameless retread of an inspired idea, but so what? Woody Guthrie's notebooks contained hundreds of music-less lyrics, and this collective seems to have countless fresh rock-folk hybrids to showcase them in. Again, Billy Bragg sounds thrilled to share the weight of the world with the activist folkie's ghost. And Wilco get closer to the Great American Rock Band they've always aspired to be. Their own forthcoming LP should be a doozy. B+
