On Surrendered, David S. Ware continues shaving the edge off his quartet's once confrontational sound, but there's still plenty of nasty tenor sax from the leader and slamming contributions from the others. There's also room for Matt Shipp's lyrical piano, and inviting romps (''My Favorite Things''-like ''African Drums,'' ''Glorified Calypso''), and a take on Charles Lloyd's ''Sweet Georgia Bright.''
