The guitar whiz cashes in his superstar chits for this largely instrumental album, an indulgence he's earned but doesn't quite pull off. On Play guest vocals from Keith Urban (current chart-climber ''Start a Band'') and B.B. King (the rollicking duel of ''Let the Good Times Roll'') bring a welcome respite from all the noodling, which ranges from Brad Paisley's gloriously rich acoustic improvisation on ''What a Friend We Have in Jesus'' to a ludicrous Van Halen-flavored cheese bomb called ''Cliffs of Rock City.'' One hundred points for artistic integrity. Can we have more singing now? B–
