The New 'SNL' Players

Why Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins will leave you giggling

MICHAELA WATKINS
Training The 36-year-old was schooled in funny thanks to six years with the L.A. improv troupe the Groundlings (alums include Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig). Most recently, she guest-starred on The New Adventures of Old Christine as a loony love interest for Matthew (Hamish Linklater). Web Work Watkins does a hilariously spot-on impersonation of Arianna Huffington bedding a college student (''Deez yung people don't know da first ting about how to please a voman!''). What She Brings to SNL Much like Wiig, Watkins displays a knack for capturing a character's idiosyncrasies. Penelope, get ready to meet your match.

ABBY ELLIOTT
Training Elliott earned her comedy cred both from the Groundlings and New York City's Upright Citizens Brigade, cofounded by Amy Poehler. The daughter of SNL alum (and Cabin Boy star!) Chris Elliott, the 21-year-old has done guest voice gigs on King of the Hill, and has a role on Hill creator Mike Judge's new animated series, The Goode Family. Web Work Elliott does an uncanny imitation of Kirsten Dunst (sadly, the clips recently vanished from YouTube). What She Brings to SNL A youthful presence and a stellar pedigree. Plus, she's adorable enough to be the female SNL crush equivalent of Andy Samberg.
