I didn't want to believe The X-Files: I Want to Believe was as bad as the theatrical reviews said, and my wish was fulfilled: It plays like a solid extended episode of the often-classic TV show, with Duchovny's Mulder and Anderson's Scully searching for an abducted FBI agent with the help of a man who has visions. Who's also a pedophile priest. Who bleeds from his eyes. (Nice job, Billy Connolly!) The ''extended cut'' here, however, incorporates a mere four extra minutes that don't add much. Bonus features on the three-disc set include a commentary by creator Chris Carter and collaborator Frank Spotnitz that's typically affable but also typical in its annoying insistence on not saying anything remotely revelatory. Time to let your guard down, Chris. B
