Haven't you heard? David Simon's stunning ode to Baltimore is omgthebestthingever! The critical response has been a bit orgasmic, to say the least. As is rarely the case, however, the hype holds. Over five seasons, The Wire morphed from an above-average cop show into the truest portrait of urban America that television has ever produced. This 23-disc collection essentially re-collects the previously released boxed sets in slimmer form. The only new extras are a slightly humorous gag reel and three short character ''prequels'' easily available on YouTube. If you own most of these seasons already, steer clear. B
