Burnin' Up the Road (1990)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Lead Performance: McBride and the Ride; Genre: Country

McBride and the Ride take their inspiration from yet another geographically based sound, the kind of California country rock practiced by Southern Pacific. In Burnin' Up the Road, lead singer-songwriter Terry McBride did a stint with Delbert McClinton, guitarist Ray Herndon formerly played with Lyle Lovett, and drummer Billy Thomas once backed Emmylou Harris. But with its songs of hot cars and fast women, this offering is as shallow and cliché-ridden as it is tuneful. C+
