On Jan. 11, a lawyer for Blake Fielder-Civil, 26, announced that his
client is divorcing singer Amy Winehouse, 25, on grounds of adultery.
HOSPITALIZED
Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel, 53, checked into a Toronto hospital
Jan. 12 with an irregular heartbeat. He was released the following day.
RECOVERING
Law & Order: SVU's Mariska Hargitay, 44, suffered a partially collapsed
lung. Her reps say she will continue to shoot the season's remaining
episodes.
COURTS
On Jan. 9 in Malibu, actor Ryan O'Neal, 67, pleaded guilty to possession
of a controlled substance and agreed to an 18-month drug treatment
program. Upon completion, his charges, which stem from a Sept. 17
arrest, will be dropped.
DEATHS
Jean de Florette director Claude Berri, 74, passed away Jan. 12 in
Paris, after being hospitalized with a neurological condition.... Tom
O'Horgan, 84, the director of the first Broadway version of Hair, died
Jan. 11 of natural causes in Venice, Fla.... Actor Steven Gilborn, 72

SWAYZE HOSPITALIZED
Just days after his interview with Barbara Walters aired on 20/20, Patrick Swayze was admitted to an L.A. hospital with pneumonia on Jan. 9. The actor, who is battling pancreatic cancer, remains under observation, even as his new A&E series, The Beast, was set to premiere on Jan. 15. ''One thing I'm not gonna do is chase staying alive,'' Swayze told Walters. ''You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won't live.'' — KW
