This week on the music beat -- Pat Metheny put down Kenny G for overdubbing Louis Armstrong's '"What a Wonderful World''

AXMAN VS. SAXMAN
Don't expect to find jazzbo guitarist Pat Metheny woodshedding with sax smoothie Kenny G anytime soon. Metheny recently posted a passionate anti-G screed on his website (www.patmethenygroup.com). Turns out the guitarist is incensed because G overdubbed his ''wimped out, f---ed up'' sax playing on Louis Armstrong's ''What a Wonderful World'' for his recent album Classics in the Key of G — an act Metheny calls ''musical necrophilia.'' He continues: ''By disrespecting Louis, his legacy, and by default, everyone who has ever tried to do something positive with improvised music and what it can be, Kenny G has created a new low point in modern culture.'' Metheny urges a ''boycott [of] Kenny G recordings, concerts, and anything he is associated with.'' G declines to comment. But considering Metheny's parting shot — ''If I ever do see him anywhere, at any function — he will get a piece of my mind (and maybe a guitar wrapped around his head)'' — we'd advise G to watch his back.
