News from Hollywood -- Bryan Singer is finishing a treatment for the ''X-Men'' sequel, while Salma Hayek will play Frida Kahlo

CATCH WIND OF THIS
Could the details of Catch Me if You Can change any more? First, Leonardo DiCaprio was in, with Gore Verbinski (The Mexican) directing. Then, DiCaprio's involvement was threatened by his work on Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York running over schedule. Now, Catch Me's producers are trying to work around DiCaprio's schedule, even if that means losing Verbinski to another film and costar James Gandolfini back to The Sopranos. ''We're meeting with Leo to make sure this will be his first movie after Gangs, whether it's before the strike or after,'' says producer Barry Kemp. ''No matter what, we want to go with him.''

SIGNING ON THE X
Director Bryan Singer (X-Men) won't begin filming Charlie Kaufman's Confessions of a Dangerous Mind until March, leaving him and producer Tom DeSanto time to finish up the treatment for the X-Men sequel, and to come to terms with Fox. Singer, who was unhappy with what he felt was a restrictive $75 million budget for the first X-Men, says he and the studio are haggling over numbers again, but this time around, ''everyone seems to be on the same page.''

FURTHERMORE
Director Julie Taymor is courting Geoffrey Rush (Quills) for the role of Trotsky in Miramax's Frida Kahlo biopic starring Salma Hayek and Edward Norton; Jennifer Lopez will also play the painter in a dueling film for United Artists.
