Danelectro (2012)

EW's GRADE
C

Details Lead Performance: Yo La Tengo; Genre: Indie Rock

The six-track instrumental Danelectro has snippets of quaint loveliness. The first two tracks, all heavy bass and vestigial floating guitar, could double as the score to a pastoral dusk. Then the usual Yo La bits of fuzzy weirdness begin, but what was once edgy now feels like random noise (is that a horse whinny?) in place of melody. The Hoboken three have earned their boho dream and the luxury of releasing whatever they like. Just as we have the luxury of listening to something else. C
