In 1995, Mobb Deep released The Infamous and with it a bare drum-and-strings sound that grooved with the album's poetic tales of thug life and sparked a fresh hip-hop style. East Coast MCs like Timbaland, Jay-Z, and Mystikal adopted the formula, and by the time Mobb Deep's Murda Muzic hit in 1999, the duo had altered the hip-hop landscape. On his solo debut H.N.I.C., Prodigy, with guests Noreaga and Mobb member Havoc, still rocks the hardcore rhymes like no other, but the sound is considerably less revolutionary. B-
