A Class Act

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Edward Kleban; Writers: Edward Kleban, Lonny Price; Director: Lonny Price

Anyone who lives and breathes theater will love A Class Act, a ''new'' musical by the late Edward Kleban. He wrote hundreds of songs, yet his one singular sensation (as lyricist) was A Chorus Line. A fraction of Kleban's oeuvre — lush, thoughtful pieces that recall William Finn and young Stephen Sondheim — turns up in this bio, coauthored and directed by Lonny Price (who also stars). He's backed by a top-drawer cast including Randy Graff and Carolee Carmello. It's a poignant tribute to a man and his music. B+
