Reenacting the real-life case of a Cincinnati curator (Woods) prosecuted on obscenity charges for displaying an exhibit of Robert Mapplethorpe photos, the made-for-Showtime docudrama Dirty Pictures constitutes a convincing civics lesson in the importance of protecting the First Amendment. What the filmmakers don't seem to realize is that given the audience will consist of people interested in watching a movie called Dirty Pictures they're preaching to the converted. B-
