From Tony Romo infidelity blather to the unfortunate mom-jeans episode, the Internet hasn't always been kind to Jessica Simpson since she decided to dip her toe into do-si-do territory last year. Despite the fact that the onetime pop singer and Newlyweds star's latest album, Do You Know, debuted at No. 1 on the country charts last September, the disc ultimately proved underwhelming with sales stalling out around 180,000. Then, earlier this week, gossip sites started buzzing that she'd been dropped from her label, Columbia Nashville. Not so, her personal publicist tells EW: ''Jessica is and has always been an Epic artist,'' referring to the mainstream Sony sister of the country imprint. ''She was only on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album.'' (A rep at Epic confirmed that. As for Simpson's next album, her personal publicist said they ''don't know'' what genre she'll tackle.)
An additional flurry of Web interest came on the heels of MSNBC's recent report that Simpson may get back to her reality roots — as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars. When contacted, an ABC rep would only say, ''We do not comment on casting rumors.'' What about another singing cameo on the show, then? That would be unlikely, claims a second show source. ''She appeared last season, on September 30, 2008, and sang two songs,'' says the insider. ''I doubt we'd have a repeat performance so close to her last one.'' Facts? Logic? It'll take more than that to beat down the bloggers.
