Suddenly Susan's Latin heartthrob, Nestor Carbonell, wrote and stars in Attention Shoppers, a comedy that teeters between quirky character sketches and domestic pathos. He plays a sitcom actor contemplating the failures of his marriage and career while making a disastrous, fan-free celebrity appearance at a Kmart opening. The satire of second-tier fame is pitch-perfect, especially in scenes with Perry as a philosophy-spouting soap hunk, but those scenes are rare. It's mostly a parade of not-zany-enough shoppers who don't care that a star on the downslide is in their presence. Maybe they're on to something. C
