The networks are announcing their fall lineups. Yay, new shows! Boo, some look stinky! Here, based solely on short preview clips, are five shows from NBC and ABC that caught my eye for better or worse.
THE PROMISING
COMMUNITY (NBC)
Joel McHale heads up the cast of a comedy about a community college full
of misfit students and teachers. Funny and clever, with Chevy Chase
costarring.
HANK (ABC)
Kelsey Grammer stars as a ''rich white man'' (his words) a CEO who's been
downsized. Looks like it may fit his post-Frasier persona just right.
MODERN FAMILY (ABC)
A smart sitcom following three very different suburban families (with Married...With Children's Ed O'Neill). Surprisingly, they all seem
pretty darn funny.
THE DISHEARTENING
MERCY (NBC)A medical drama about nurses who are both cynical and innocent, crossing Grey's Anatomy with Third Watch. This could be utterly insufferable.
THE FORGOTTEN (ABC)
A team of amateur detectives solve mysteries involving unidentified
murder victims. They're called the Identity Network. They look earnest,
tough, and dull.
