WHY HE MIGHT LOOK FAMILIAR
If you've wandered anywhere near a multiplex lately, the 20-year-old's
mug has been hard to miss. He plays the boyishly gung ho Chekov in Star
Trek and the young resistance fighter Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation.
MOTHER RUSSIA
Chekov's Slavic accent was a cinch for Yelchin, who was born in St.
Petersburg, Russia. His figure-skater parents moved to the States when
he was 6 months old. Yelchin snagged his first gig, on ER, at age 10 a
period when, he admits, ''I used to play with an Arnold Terminator action
figure.''
HOPING FOR SALVATION
''I have an aversion to remakes, which is ironic because I'm in two of
them right now,'' says Yelchin, best known for the 2007 indie Alpha Dog.
''When I went back and watched T3 recently, I thought, 'We need to make a
better movie.' I can't say I'm a fan.''
WHAT'S NEXT
The anthology film New York, I Love You, due this October, and no doubt
countless Trek conventions.
