Soul Finger (1992)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Bar-kays; Genres: R&B, Soul

When Atlantic Records released the monumental Complete Stax/Volt Singles boxed set last year — indisputable proof there was more to '60s soul than just Motown — it vowed to reissue all of the Memphis label's albums as well. This reissue is changing soul's reputation as a singles-only affair. The MG's sound distant and cerebral, more skillful than soulful of And Now!, can't be compared with the funky horn-driven party jams of their protégés, the Bar-Kays, on the rousing Soul FingerB+
